Carmen Kirschner is an actress and independent theatre maker based in Vienna. She develops her own works through the lens of biographical experience and female lines of memory — situated between body, history, and the present.

With Dippel. Diagnose CIN 3, she brought cervical cancer, endometriosis, and related women’s health issues to the stage at Kosmos Theater in 2023. Humor always plays a central role in her work. The Austrian weekly Falter described the production as “quirky and empowering.” In 2026, her co-production Die Theatermacherinnen premiered in collaboration with Theater am Werk. The production focused on Helga Illich and Johanna Tomek, exploring their pioneering roles as leading figures in Vienna’s independent theatre scene of the 1980s.

Kirschner writes, produces, and performs. Her engagements have taken her to Staatstheater Meiningen, Theater der Jugend Vienna, Raimundspiele Gutenstein, and the Wiener Festwochen.
